Ashley Callie

The talented actress. The beautiful person. Our love and support.

Ashley’s Memorial Service February 18, 2008

Filed under: General — admin @ 9:47 am

Family, friends and fans of Isidingo actress Ashley Callie will converge on the gardens of the Johannesburg Country Club, in Auckland Park, at 10am on Thursday for her memorial service.

Callie, best known for her role as the feisty Lee Haines in the soapie, died at Milpark Hospital on Friday after spending a week in the intensive care unit after a horrific head-on car collision a week earlier.

Callie’s sister, Lauren, yesterday said the choice of venue was apt because it was a special place for the family.

“Our father has been a member of the club since he was boy, and we have been going there for years. It was a favourite place of Ashley’s. It has a lot of good memories for the family so it is very significant. She loved the rose gardens,” Lauren said.

The service will be open to the public and hundreds of fans are expected to attend.

“We understand that Ashley has a lot of fans and people want to say goodbye to her personally,” Lauren said.

“She was special to everyone and it is touching and comforting to know on how many lives she has left a positive impression.”

She said the influx of messages of support and condolence had not waned, and tributes were still streaming in.

“We are overwhelmed by the messages and we cannot adequately express our appreciation,” she said. – The Times

Mag God in hierdie dag vir elke storm in julle lewe n reenboog gee, vir elke traan n glimlag, vir elke bekommernis n belofte en vir elke gebed n antwoord.

Dear Lauren, and the rest of the Callie Family,

“And too this shall pass!”.

Ashley, was a beautiful spirit who touched millions of people. This display of grief, and outpouring from South African people show how much Ashley was apart of our families and what a gift she was.

You should all be exceptionally proud of yourselves that you assisted and moulded Ashley into the beautiful spirit that she was.

In this time of grief, may you be inspired to cherish every moment of Ashley’s remarkable life, her remarkable presence, her remarkable existance. She is indeed beauty beyond compare.

Sive Says:

Sive Booi Says:

It is sad that we are losing all the good people, perhaps it’s for a good reason. Ashley was one of the best actors Africa has ever had and we were so privilleged as South Africans to have her on our screens everyday.
We will miss her strong character on Isidingo. May her beautiful soul rest in peace.

Natalie Says:

To Ashley’s Mom, Dad & Sister & the Isidingo Cast, May God hold you in the palm of His hand at this time. Ashley was an absolute joy to watch in Isidingo. Her presence in our home every night made her part of the family. It was the 8th Anniversary of my sister’s death on the 13th and I felt that I had lost her all over again. We do not know ‘Why’ but understand that Ashley had completed her work on earth that God had given her to do. I was devastated when I heard the news. She made a major impression on me and I will miss her dearly. God Bless you all.

Debby and Aimee Johnson Says:

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Callie family. She was an amazing person, always smiling and laughing. Ashley was my role model, so elegant and sophisticated! I loved the way she was always so perfect, on TV and off. I will miss her presence in our home. May you rest in peace, Ashley!

Zerish Says:

When I heard of the accident, the thought of her never left my mind. I prayed silenty that she would pull through. All it took was for the announcement on SABC3, late Friday afternoon, to bring tears to me. I have not felt this feeling of sorrow since the death of Diana, Ashley had the same flair and glamour, her eyes spoke volumes and through it I would see her kind and loving nature, a true Princess! She was unique and for this reason, managed to be a part of so many hearts.

I will continue to admire her and will never forget her.

To the Callie family, my thoughts and prayers are with you. She will always be an angel watching over you.

To the cast of Isidingo, I wish you strength.

glyn Says:

Was Ashley already an angel before she left us ? For all the years that I have watched Isidingo I have wondered what drew me to her, what made her leave such an impression on such a grounded person as myself ? As I shed these tears I cannot explain why I am crying over a person I have never met – this is not of my character. Id always thought that my admiration of her was admiration of her poise, beauty and simply on-screen perfection, yet since hearing of her passing I now realise that my admiration ran deeper than that superficiality. Maybe, despite her admirable acting skills her true purity in being still portayed itself in the charcter of Leoni Haines of Isidingo ? To Ashley’s family and friends –
‘Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all’
Ahley’s loved ones – it doesnt seem like that right now but in time you will know that you are blessed to have had her in yor lives – even though it wasnt long. God bless and give you strength.

Irene Nazahedi Says:

Lee – oh I do not know what to say – I just remember yesterday when you had made the DIFFICULT decision of RESIGNING at ON TV – Really I will miss you alot. You are one of the characters who make me feel STRONG as a woman. It is a pain to lose someone you know. May God give strength to your family. Let me tell you this – YOU WILL BE MISSED. RIP

Kim Says:

To be mourned by an entire nation you KNOW you must have done something right!!! You are a shining example of what each and every one of us should be striving to be…a fantastic, caring, loving, spiritual, beautiful person. You must have a fantastic Mom & Dad (& sister). Ashley you are sorely missed already but I believe we will all be together in the end and celebrate the life that was.

Have a blessed Journey.
We Love you.

Stephen Herbst Says:

Oh God, No!
On Moday it was That feeling all over again… like the news of my brothers tragic passing..
Suddenly we find that our language is unable to emancipate the slightest description or explanaton of what we are feeling… that numb dizzy feeling as my lift plummets 13 floors, only a few more seconds to live and I can’t, gasp, breathe… Oh God NO… It can’t be… what is this crap they saying on the radio!!!

While Ashley’s portrayal of Leone Haines may be far removed from her true being… I felt, well I can see that our Nation felt the same way! What a Paragon! What a Shining Soul! I loved watching her act… so precise, deliberate and perfect… I would have given anything to have actually met Ashley.

My thoughts go out to her family, friends and everyone at the Isidingo set (the Flagship SA Soap), I really do know how it feels.

Dear Ashley, our elaborate belief systems unfurl, dismantle and collapse lying dismembered and strewn about our feet as you step through the “Veil”. Your sojourn here ends, and you walk in Peace, truly missed by a grief stricken nation. But, one day, standing face to face – we will embrace once again.

Right now though, I’m a 39yr old S.A. male, with tears in his eyes and a runny nose!

Andrew Says:

Still cant believe she’s gone. Isidingo will never be the same, as we will all feel a great absence in the show.
To the family, God Bless, and best wishes for the up coming times. I wish i could attend the memorial but its quite a distance from Cape Town. Ashley will be in our hearts forever.

manisha Says:

its so saddening 2 watch ashley on tv. in tonights episode she was so mischievious and happy. its terrible 2 think that she is no lnger around 2 play such a well-suited role =( my prayers are with the Callie family

Natalie Le Clue Says:

watching tonight’s episode was hard. I just cant grasp that she is no longer with us. She is so alive on the screen, its so unbelievable that she is gone. At least we have the pleasure of watching her last episode on Isidingo, though it is very little comfort.

Sheldon Says:

It’s such a shame that she had to die at such a young age. May you rest in peace Ashley. If I lived in JHB i would really attend your funeral!

Randy-PTA Says:

Its like i knew Ashley personaly,I loved her character in Isidingo.i will deeply miss her.To the family may the Lord give you strength to go through this.

Barbara Harmel Says:

Let all of us who mourn the tragic loss of Ashley Callie commit ourselves to actively honouring her memory. Let us all make a daily and ongoing committment to changing the character of driving in our country. Learning and obeying the rules of the road, safe and respectful driving is vital. In this way the hideous price Ashley paid will not be in vain. Barbara

Arilyn Says:

Only the good die young (God needed another angel). Ashley you will be missed. Best wishes to the Callie Family.

Malehlohonolo Leeuw Says:

“I see the branch of an almond tree” (Jer 1:11) – Beneath the surface there is always something happening. To Ashley’s family, “Behind the scenes, God is preparing a new springtime. He may allow this cold to obscure the preparations He is making, but He always brings forth new life, new hope and new activity. Cold as things may seem now, He will propel you into a new springtime – Ashley was a great person, anticipate greater things from her good work, exult in her legacy!!!

Eugene Roux Says:

Our prayers and thoughts extend to the family of Ashley and those who were close to her. Life is such a precious gift but it can so easily be taken away. Let us not question the reasons why Ashley was taken from us but give praise and thanks to God for allowing her to be the person she was while she was still alive. Let us reflect on her legacy and acknowledge that life is not a privilege but a gift that can be taken away anytime. Let us do what we can day by day and not worry about the future.

Ashley is in a better place now. Let her be with God and the angels and let us remember her the difference she made while she was alive. Rest in peace.

mathemba Says:

It is difficult to accept that her life’s journey has been fulfilled but, be comforted knowing that she is safe and that her soul rests in peace. You will meet again and she will be there to welcome you.

From an Isidingo fan who admired Ashley from afar.
