Guys, there a heck of a lot more to consider here. Look at the Tyres on the Renault. The Rear is still original, estimating the vehicle to be a 2006/7 model. The Front Tyres not being original but V-Rated replacements, firstly tells me sonething about the driving style of the user of the vehicle. Who was the more regular driver of this vehicle? What is the history of the driver? A young cornering Speadster? Face it, a Scenic is not the ideal handler to go speading 130km/h down 3rd Ave into the intersection of Linden. It is clear that he left the left hand side lane, due to the speed he was travelling, the bend to the left from third into the intersection and then the curve to the right into Linden. This chap was driving negligently considering the amount of passengers he had on board, could not sufficiently handle the vehicle for the speed he was travelling and colided with a vehicle which was anticipating to turn right. He crossed into the turning direction of the waiting vehicle as the approaching vehicle was obviously in the left hand lane while approaching, then suddenly crossed directly in line with the vehicle wanting to turn, therefore the reason of the Renault smashed on the passenger side. My estimation is that he might have even rolled his vehicle, should the SMART not have been in the way. It may seem as if the SMART was on the incorrect side of the road, however, consider the demographics of the intersection, waiting and anticipation patterns of drivers on approaching traffic. The Investigation Officer has clearly been alternatively influenced as the “Truth” as published is considering only certain aspects of the scene, therefore factually incorrect. It is stated that he swerved right to avoid the SMART. It was in fact the speed he travelled around a left bend that forced him into a left nose to right propelled skid and his counter steer to the right in an attempt to correct the vehicle as he was heading for a right bend in the road. I’ll call for proper forensic analysis. The PRESS statement is surely also a slight bit overprotective of the young man’s doing. Bottomline – someone died and the dead don’t speak. Polygraph the living and get to the ultimate TRUTH. Have contradicting statements been taken from all the occupants of the Renault?

anon Says:

I cant believe that some people are willing to chalk this up as a random accident. The more and more I read, the more it seems to me that the Renault was at fault. Lottering (what a joke!) has said that nobody was intoxicated, probably with the use of his sixth sense, so if neither of them were drunk, why would Ashley have been in the wrong lane? And a 130 km/h in a 60km/h zone, guess he thought he was just the man and that he could handle it. Anon’s explanation of events seems much more likely than Lotterings’ because:

1. Again, if Ashley was not intoxicated, why would she be on the wrong side of the road?

2. The didnt ‘smell’ alcohol, are you for real? Drugs dont have smell either, by the way.

3. He had to have been travelling at a great speed, if he was maybe 10 or twenty km over the speed limit he would have been able to go around her, or even slow down in time, to avoid her.

Such a horrific way to die, what must have been going through her mind as she saw that the car was not slowing down. One of the friends of the driver made a comment that he would have to live with this every single day. Be glad, because Ashley life has been cut short, taken away from everyone that loved her, and for what?

george Says:

HA HA 130KM/H, WHERE YOU THERE, ARE YOU AN EXPERT OR DO YOUR EYES TRAVEL AROUND AT NIGHT TO LOOK AT PEOPLES SPEEDO’S, IT’S FUNNY THAT YOU KNOW THE SPEED WE WERE GOING THAT NIGHT. SO WHAT YOU ARE SUGGESTING IS THAT CALLIE CAN NOT MAKE A MISTAKE, AND IF YOU ARE NOT FAMOUS YOU LIFE MEANS NOTHING. WHEN DRIVING IT’S THE RESPONSEBILITY OF EVERY DRIVER TO BE ON THE LOOK OUT, NOT JUST THE ORDINARY PEOPLE BUT ALL THE PEOPLE WHO DRIVES A VEHICLE.

DID WE SMELL LIKE ALCOHOL, NO WE DIDN’T AND DRUGS, NOT EVERYONE IS SO STUPID,

I WAS A PASSANGER IN THE CAR THAT NIGHT, AND I AM REALLY SORRY ABOUT ASHLEY.

I PRAY FOR THE PEOPLE WHO WAS LEFT BEHIND

Brian and Wendy Says:

get some counselling dude!!

The public wants to know what happened. IF you were not speeding then you need to be able to explain why your car is so trashed, that does not happen at 60 km/h.

Take responsibility.

george i dont think u actually give a crap

Witness Says:

It’s not about who’s famous or the prettiest. It’s about what really happened and I feel that Mr. Schutte, Lottering etc. are Feeding the Media a bunch of sh.t!! Pretorius had been speeding and that is clear. I visited the site several times myself and the demographics tell me a lot more than what is contained in the so-called Report. George, have you bothered to go out there as you apparantly can’t remember what happened after you left home?…why is this? Can’t remember the “Trip”????

Anon Says:

I think maybe we need to just back off this topic right now and have some sensitivity for the Callie family. I have no doubt that the truth will definitely come out in the weeks and months to come. But tomorrow the Callie’s will be saying goodbye to a daughter and a sister. Ashley wasn’t just Lee Haines, she was a real person – loved and part of a family. Why don’t we focus our energies now on praying for them and wishing them peace? Just a thought.

Kim Says:

This is a poem i found and think that it is very appropriate for Ashley. My you rest in peace our Angel

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

Lotsa love
Kim

anon Says:

thanx for that kim- sounds like sumthng ash will say-makes me come to some sort of peace………

anon Says:

i think ash would have wanted her passing to bring people together. so lets stop the bickering and let her soul be @ peace.

Thanks ash 4 been a role model we all would admire for a very long tym

Kim Says:

its only a pleasure….i think we should have some respect for the Callie family and show them support instead of arguing over what has happened…..nothing we say or do is going to bring her back….the truth will eventually come out.

Tarry-anne Says:

ASHLEY NOW REST ,
SHE CAN’T SPEAK, BUT WE REMEMBER HER LAUGHTER
THE LOVING PERSON SHE IS,
I CAN TELL, HER DEATH WAS UNEXPECTED AND HITS HARD,
BUT HER LEGACY LIVES ON, IN ALL WHO LOVED AND KNEW HER,
ONLY GOD KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED THAT NIGHT, BUT ITS NOT RIGHT TO SCAR ,THE STAR OK, WE SHOULD ALL PRAY FOR HER FAMILY, FRIENDS, CO STARS AND ALL OF US FANS,

REMEMBER ASHLEY AS WE KNEW HER,
THATS HOW IT SHOULD BE, ITS NOT WHO U KNOW
ITS NOT WHAT U KNOW, ITS SIMPLY WHO U ARE!! AND ASHLEY CALLIE WAS\IS A WONDERFULL PERSON, FULL OF LAUGHTER, STRONG WILLED, INDEPENDANT, POSITIVE, BEAUTIFUL EVEN WHEN SHE CRIES, JUST BEAUTIFUL,A SWEET,SENSITIVE SOUL, INSPIRING,

I MISS U ASHLEY, STILL CAN’T BELIEVE U GONE,THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES, SEE YOU IN HEAVEN

Philip Theron Says:

The truth will come out eventually. Right now all the people who are bickering on this site about what may have happened, take a moment to reflect, and think of the Callie family and their terrible grief they have to carry. Pray for the family instead, and pray that their grief will pass..

Kim thank you for the beautiful poem!

anon Says:

DEEPEST CONDOLENCES TO IMMEDIATE FAMILY & FRIENDS OF THE LATE AND LOVED ASHLEY CALLIE. MAY THE HOLY SPIRIT BE YOUR PEACE MAKER AND THE LORD GIVE U STRENGTH DURING THIS TRAGIC AND HEART-BREAKING TIME. IT’S NOT EASY FOR ANY OF US TO LOOSE A LOVED ONE ESPICIALLY SOME1 WHO WAS LOVED AND ADMIRED MY SOOO MANY PEOPLE. WOMEN LIKE ME LOOKED UP TO ASHLEY. WE CAN BE REST ASSURED THAT ASH IS IN THE SAFE ARMS OF GOD AND LET US LEARN THAT LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO CARE ABOUT TOMORROW. LIVE TODAY AS IF IT’S THE LAST. GOD BLESS ALL!!!!!!!

Natasha Says:

George IF you know what happened that night then why don’t you go to the police and tell them, seeing that the driver clearly can’t remember.

It was also your duty as a passenger to warn the driver that he was going to fast,it doesn’t seem that you care about your life placing it in the arms of a reckless driver.

Next time think twice before getting in

Selby Says:

Rest in peace Ashley…………you are now a beautiful angel. The Callie family, I pray that you will find comfort in knowing that Ashley is in a better place…..no more sorrow….no more pain………no more weeping. I didn’t know Ashley personally, but I find it hard to believe that she would have been driving on the wrong side of the road. I just hope and pray that the young people that have survived this horrific accident, can find it in their heart to tell the TRUTH. Why should the Callie family have to suffer more that they are already suffering. The truth will set you free!!!!!!!

Debbie Says:

Rest in peace Ashle…Deepest Condolences to the Callie family…May you always treasure the happy memories that will always be with you….

Candice Says:

I think Ashley was a responsible person and I’m sure she would never have put her own or anyone elses life in danger. She is not here to defend herself. I think the people involved in the accident should be honest and say what really happened that night. I wish I could so much be by the memorial service, however my thoughts are with the Callie Family. My God comfort & protect you through your bereavement.

Lindsay Says:

I just e-mailed Dumeiter – a company that reconstructs accidents in Pretoria. Please Callie family contact them on behalf of her fans – we want to know the truth and find it difficult to believe that the accidents was caused by her. Here is a response I received from them.

Hi Lindsay,

We have already contacted the SAPS and “The Star” and expressed our
concern regarding the fact that incorrect and inaccurate information was
published. We are also prepared to assist the Callie family with the
investigation, but we need specific instructions from an involved party
before we can start with any investigation from our side. WE are also
following up to ensure that step are taken concerning the fact that
information in a case that was sub judice was leaked to the press.

The family can also contact us at the numbers listed below.

Kind Regards,

To the family my sincere condolences, may God give you strength during this time and keep your faith in God .what God has given he has taken it back.

Paul Says:

I have to agree with Iva. I STILL cannot and refuse to come to terms with this terrible, tragedy. I am unable to attend the Memorial Service, but will be wearing black in Memory and to show respect to our Dear Ashley Callie. Please will you guys post pictures of the Service. Lauren, I will be praying for you and your family the whole day tomorrow. May God be with you during this awful time. This is a tragedy of the worst kind.
ASHLEY, you live on in our hearts forever …

Lisa Vogel Says:

George – you have no right being on this website – please don’t post anything further – you have no words of compassion – had Ashley been my sister and not an Actress, i would still want that accident looked at so it has nothing to do with who she was – you guys were already irresponsible by having six people in the car. By trying to defend what the driver did or did not do you are only making us pass stronger judgment! The Truth will come to light! As for you smelling of alcohol – the paramedics were too busy trying to save your lives to notice – drugs don’t smell – your outburst stinks – people who drink and drive will always deny having too much to drink! It’s funny you mention the word “stupid” – you should concentrate on either paying more attention in English class or going back to school! By the way her name was Ashley please don’t refer to her as “Callie” that is totally disrespectful!

My dear Ashley rest in peace! We miss you and our thoughts and love are with you family and friends.

Business Acquaintance Says:

Why doesn’t everyone stop with the bickering!!!

Lets remember Ashley for the amazing and wonderful oerson she was and for all that she upheld.

Yes, the accident happened. I dont think we need to take it upon ourselves to slate anybody – this is not the forum! This website has been created in her honour. Let not the very people that chose to honour her contribute to distasteful remarks.
Yes, there is anger, direct your anger towards a more productive manner.

TUSH Says:

MAY YOU REST IN PEACE BEAUTIFUL ASHLEY. YOU HAVE BEEN NOTHING BUT AN INSPIRATION TO MY LIFE. I FEEL LIKE I HAVE KNOWN FOR YEARS. MAY YOUR FAMILY FIND COMFORT AND PEACE IN THE ARMS OF THE LORD. YOU TRULY WERE A WONDEDRFUL WOMAN AND THEE MOST WONDERFUL PERSONALITY

Sheldon Says:

It’s nice of SABC 3 to have a tribute to her. Shame, I will miss her terribly! :(

Paula C Says:

George

I think that you are a total idiot, say what you want but remember a dead person can’t speak. I totally believe that you guys were speeding. Why on earth would Ashley be on the wrong side of the road. As for saying, did we smell smell like drugs Dah…. what planet do you come from, you can’t smell drugs. My dad was killed by a youngster who was driving drunk and speeding, again the dead was to blame cos they can’t speak. I think you should keep your comments to yourself and remember what goes around comes around. So what if she was a celeb or famous her life meant alot to us her family and friends. I agree the living should take a polygraph. Remember only you guys know what happened that night and you have to live with it for the rest of your lives.

Natalie Le Clue Says:

Ashley was not just an actress or a celebrity. That was just the way in which we got to see her. And I for one am glad that I got to know who Ashley Callie is, for I fear if I did not know who she was and will always be, my life would have been much poorer.

My dad once told me that if you live your whole life through without making a difference in someone else’s, you have not made a contribution to society, therefore your existence was in vain. And if you manage to make a difference in just one person’s life, you know that you have fulfilled your purpose in life.

Now in the case of Ashley, it is clear from all the stories that she uplifted and inspired a vast amount of people, no matter how big or how small her contribtion was. For one special moment on an ordinary day, she made someone else feel better than they had that morning. On one afternoon she smiled at someone and they forgot about their problems, even if only for a split second. She cared about people, and that’s a model that all of us can follow and we would be better off for it. Nobody is making her out to be a saint, that is just the way that she was, you cant argue against it. To many people and to many of her acts will outweigh that argument.

As far as I can tell she was a bubbly, kindhearted person who always had the time to say a nice word to everyone.

And what a wonderful way to be remembered, as someone who made a difference in their time, someone who people admired for the simple act of kindness.

Ash gets big Hooray and a huge thumbs up from me!

Yvonne Says:

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Callie family, loved ones and friends as they attend Ashley’s Memorial service tomorrow. If I lived in Jhb I would attend but I live in the Cape. However, I will wear black tomorrow to show my deep sympathy and respect. I will never forget beautiul and talented Ashley, she has left a void in our lives that can never be filled. Just watching Isidingo tonight filled me with the most unbearable grief. I just cant get to grips with the tragedy. I hope that her family will find comfort in knowing how much Ashley meant to the millions of people who loved her so much.

Janine Setzer Says:

I met ashley callie the night of the chivas regal 25year launch with her sister Lauren, I am deeply saddened by what has happened, To the family, our thoughts and prayers are with you, this is an incredibly hard time but with the strength of God, you can make it. To ashley, you were an extrodinary woman and I am honoured that I had the privelage to have met you, We miss you terribly! :-(

Natalie Le Clue Says:

Can anyone tell me what Ashley’s favourite colour was, I would love to wear it tommorow.

sasha Says:

The SABC tribute to Ashley leaves me with goosebumps. She was a beautiful person in all respects and she will be sorely missed. I still can’t believe she’s gone.
May God bless her family, friends and loved ones.

Rest in Peace, Ashley – you are loved!

Jacques Weber Says:

Firstly, I would like to know how metro police come to their conclusion without wittness, ashley could of seen these speedsters on her side of the road and moved over to the otherside of the road to advoid them. They already broke the law as there was 6 in a car designed for 5.

It is also amazing how not one of them remember the accident. This seems a little hard to believe. I would understand one or two having blank outs but all 6 of them,, chances! they dont want to remember as they know the driver has something to do with it!

Lucinda Callie Says:

Jacques
can anyone tell me what has happened to the 6 that hit her? Are they the ones coming forward now and saying it was Ashes fault?
thanks
Lucinda Callie

Tanya Nothnagel Says:

It’s so sad to lose someone with such a good heart and beautiful soul, like ASHLEY! May her light always guide us! Ashley, you won’t be forgotten!! We will terribly miss you!! May God be with your family, and your ‘Isidingo-family’ in this time of your sudden loss! Me and my family will bow our heads in prayer at 10am, and we will say a prayer for you and your family, for them to find the strength to carry on! May you walk with God and may God bless you, BEAUTIFUL ANGEL!!! :(

ANON Says:

TOP BILLING’S TRIBUTE TO ASHLEY CALLIE TONIGHT 21 FEB 2008

TV viewers were shocked last Friday at the news that the gorgeous Isidingo actress, Ashley Callie, had died in hospital from head injuries sustained during a car accident the previous week. Top Billing pays tribute to a woman who shone as brightly from the inside as she did on our screens.

Ashley Callie dazzled on our January/February 2007 magazine cover. The cover story had Isidingo’s Lee Haines revealing to readers that, ‘Ashley in real life loves meeting with friends and having discussions. I also love getting out of town – to the mountains – because I love walking. Walking to me is a moving meditation. I walk out frustration: it’s a wonderful time to think. I love going to the sea, spending time reading, eating lots of food when I have the chance, and I’m passionate about cooking.’

Nine things you didn’t know about Ashley Callie (from Top Billing magazine, Jan/Feb 2007)
1. My never-fail pick-me-up when I’m down is to call a friend and slowly work through everything. The phone bill is always worth it!
2. I never leave home without my sunglasses.
3. Love is acceptance – my best times are spent with people I love and who love me.
4. I lose my cool when people act with no regard for others. Thinking it’s ‘all about you’ and not taking anyone else into consideration is unacceptable – even if you are stressed.
5. I really wish I had more time.
6. I laugh whenever I can.
7. I’m most at peace when I have managed to do good work.
8. I simply cannot resist turning the music up very loud.
9. I’m scared of not progressing. Not building. Not learning the lesson. Causing hurt to those I love. Not being true to myself. Making assumptions.

Rod & Lorraine Says:

We are devastated …. you were like part of our family. Our children are in the same age group …. we still cannot believe it when we watch you on television. We always looked forward to watching you on TV. You will never be forgotten! Deepest condolences to all the family. We will be with you today. Love Rod & Lorraine

kelebogile tibana Says:

What a great soul!!!
She is indeed needed in a place more appropriate for her kind only …Heaven!!!

we were blessed to have her …We still have herin our minds and definatley in our minds…
I wish that more of us can learn to love and appreciate life and respect and appreciate each others lives as well!!!!!!!!

may she be remembered by the way she lit our hearts and our living rooms with laughter and her great smile!!!!!!

Love you lots Ash!!!Bye

Sonia Ludeke Says:

Can someone please tell me if they will show the memorial on SABC.

I couldn’t go to the memorial, but want I would love to say is that Ashley was an AMAZING person. Always ready with a smile to cheer someone up or to encourage someone. She was a true ambassador for South Africa. May the family, friends, colleagues and fans find peace with the fact that she is in a place with no tears, no pain, no darkness. We wil miss Ashleay, but she is safely in the arms our GREAT FATHER. Ashley, rest in peace and know that South Africa will miss you. Miss your smile, your laughter, etc. You were an angel that God has send to all of our hearts, even if it was for such a short while, but you filled it with love. To the family, her body is gone, but her soul and memories will live your hearts forever. To the fans and colleagues, guys, we’ve lost a loved one. Someone that was a true icon for South Africa, a role model for many youngsters and a beautiful woman that changed a lot of peoples lives. Hope you all find peace in God that strenghtens us!!! RIP ASHLEY – WE WILL MISS YOU!!!!!!

Portia Mokubela Says:

Ashley was a truly talented woman. Isidingo will never be same again. Will miss her dearly. Ash I will forever remember you. I love you. MAY YOUR SOUL REST IN PEACE.

FAREWELL ASH!!!

Love
Posh

Lee Says:

George

Out of respect to the Callie family and Ashley’s memory, I will not say all the things I want to say to you. It seems to me that all of this is just a big joke to you and it looks like you don’t feel any remorse. If you did, you would have kept your idiotic comment to yourself and tell the truth, what really happened. It’s easy to blame Ashley, because she’s not here to defend herself. If you were not speeding it should be easy to explain why your car was so thrashed…I think that you just don’t give a damn. But don’t worry the truth will come out sooner or later, it always does.

ursula lorraine Says:

get real we all know exactly how youngsters drive especially when they are in daddy’s car with friends,
ashley i believe with all my heart you are not to blame and i believe that if you were taken to fourways life or sandton, you would have poulled through.

june esau Says:

I will always remember your positive spirit Ashley and I love you. God Bless!

Deonette Nieuwoudt Says:

I am very upset to see some of these messages on this website, this is a website for Ashley, not for you to leave your childish remarks.
I can see clearly you people dont have respect.

And yes the truth will come out, but for now stop thinking of yourselves and think of the ones who lots a loved one.

Remember the wheel always turns.

Deonette Nieuwoudt

Lee Says:

I posted a comment earlier and if I offended anyone I’m so sorry. You are right, this site is a tribute to Ashley and not a platform to be angry and selfish.
I’ve watched all the tributes and all I can say is that they’re truly beautiful. I especially enjoyed the one with the Isidingo bloopers. It’s just how I will remember Ashley, bubbly, vibrate, funny and beautiful. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. God bless

Selina Says:

Ashley Callie – you will live on in our hearts forever. How could anyone forget your beautiful smile. May God give the family and cast of Isidingo strength and comfort during this time of bereavement.
Will continue to pray for all of you.

Selina Says:

Four Candles for You – Ashley Callie

The first candle represents our grief.
The pain of losing you is intense.
It reminds us of the depth of our love for you.
This second candle represents our courage.
To confront our sorrow,
To comfort each other,
To change our lives.

This third candle we light in your memory.
For the times we laughed,
The times we cried,
The times we were angry with each other,
The silly things you did,
The caring and joy you gave us.

This fourth candle we light for our love.
We light this candle that your light will always shine.
As we enter and share this night of remembrance
with our family and friends.

We cherish the special place in our hearts
that will always be reserved for you.
We thank you for the gift
your living brought to each of us.

We love you.
We remember you.

Anon Says:

Hi All

I personally know the driver of the Renault and I too was a dedicated fan of Ashley.
I could tell you all about the driver.. He might be a young man but he is responsible at that. He has been through alot in life. Nobody stops to consider him or what he is feeling because he is not famous. I in a way find that too be wrong. At the end of the day it is God’s will as to who is chosen. It was not his time.
If he had died and not Ashley would you all be going on like this??
Accidents happen, as cruel as they sometimes are. Lets live and let live.
May Ashley rest in peace.

Tanya Says:

Why are you anonomous and not telling us your name? Maybe because it’s you, the driver himself, posting a comment! Go take your comments and publish them on another site!!!! We don’t want you posting any comments on Ashley’s site! This is where we honour her!!! Her family doesn’t need negative comments. Please!!!!

snowlily Says:

Dear Anon,
I knew Ashley and I didnt know the driver of the renault. Since this accident has happened it has sparked a lot of hatred and mudslinging towards Ashley as well as the driver of the renault. The driver of the reanault also lost his father recentley and I must say that this must have been extremely hard for him as well as the guilt he must be feeling due to the accident. My thouhgts have been with him and his family since I heard what happened. We shouldn’t be so hasty to judge people when we will never know the full extent of what happened. Nico may your father rest in peace and may you find some comfort in the fact that there are people out there that care for you very much. May Ashley rest in peace and may God keep her safe . Everyone it is now time to let go. Please let Ashley go ,she is in a better place and she will always be smiling down on us. To the Ash gang, this is the last post from me on this site. LOve you all Lots
Snowlily

Meagan Says:

Hi, Tanya

I totally agree with you. Well said.

Paul Says:

Hi Snowlily,

Why is this your last post, friend?
We all agreed that this site was going to carry on in Ash’s Rememberance. To keep her Spirit Alive.

I know we have to let her Rest In Peace, but it’s going to take time.

I miss you Ash every day!

Lauren, John, Mr & Mrs Callie, Deyon & Kids I’m still thinking and praying for you all.

Paul.
