Ashley Callie rose

While family, friends and fans converge on the gardens of the Johannesburg Country Club in Auckland Park for Ashley’s memorial service at 10am today, Ashley has been memorialised by a beautiful new Ashley Callie Rose, created by Ludwig’s Roses, seen here.

The Callie Family would like to express how moved they are by this kind gesture, and wish to thank Ludwig’s Roses for so kindly dedicating the perfect rose in remembrance of Ashley’s gracious sense of style, love of all things beautiful and passion for living.

Reflecting on the memorial venue, Lauren Callie (Ashley’s sister) said, “Our father has been a member of the club since he was boy, and we have been going there for years. It was a favourite place of Ashley’s. It has a lot of good memories for the family so it is very significant. She loved the rose gardens,” Lauren said.

The service will be open to the public and hundreds of fans are expected to attend.

For those who can’t make it to the venue, please try to observe a minute of loving silence for Ashley and her family at 10am this morning. Or light a candle. Something that connects you with Ashley and her loved ones.

To the family: we will be thinking of you even more today and will always remember Ashley with love, admiration and gratitude for the joy she brought to our lives.

Lauren Munna Says:

To Ashleys family
I am so sorry for your loss. It is so tragic that such a young life was taken so early.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all and I pray God will hold you in his arms and help ease your pain.

Matthew Rhys Says:

Fly, fly little wing
Fly beyond imagining
The softest cloud, the whitest dove
Upon the wind of heaven’s love
Past the planets and the stars
Leave this lonely world of ours
Escape the sorrow and the pain
And fly again

Fly, fly precious one
Your endless journey has begun
Take your gentle happiness
Far too beautiful for this
Cross over to the other shore
There is peace forevermore
But hold this memory bittersweet
Until we meet

Fly, fly do not fear
Don’t waste a breath, don’t shed a tear
Your heart is pure, your soul is free
Be on your way, don’t wait for me
Above the universe you’ll climb
On beyond the hands of time
The moon will rise, the sun will set
But I won’t forget

Fly, fly little wing
Fly where only angels sing
Fly away, the time is right
Go now, find the light

Our sadness and our grief;.
We have to cry, to mourn our loss,
Before we get relief.

We know we’ll reconnect with her
At the end of each life’s road;
We’ll see her cherished face again
When we release our earthly load.

And although it may seem
hard right now,

of these little things
that help to push
away the pain
and bring the smiles
back again.

With Loving Memories

Mokgwaabone Shomang Says:

Thank you for blessing our screens with your unique talent and beauty. Wow, what an individual you were.

Robala ka kagiso.

ANON Says:

TV viewers were shocked last Friday at the news that the gorgeous Isidingo actress, Ashley Callie, had died in hospital from head injuries sustained during a car accident the previous week. Top Billing pays tribute to a woman who shone as brightly from the inside as she did on our screens.

Ashley Callie dazzled on our January/February 2007 magazine cover. The cover story had Isidingo’s Lee Haines revealing to readers that, ‘Ashley in real life loves meeting with friends and having discussions. I also love getting out of town – to the mountains – because I love walking. Walking to me is a moving meditation. I walk out frustration: it’s a wonderful time to think. I love going to the sea, spending time reading, eating lots of food when I have the chance, and I’m passionate about cooking.’

Nine things you didn’t know about Ashley Callie (from Top Billing magazine, Jan/Feb 2007)
1. My never-fail pick-me-up when I’m down is to call a friend and slowly work through everything. The phone bill is always worth it!
2. I never leave home without my sunglasses.
3. Love is acceptance – my best times are spent with people I love and who love me.
4. I lose my cool when people act with no regard for others. Thinking it’s ‘all about you’ and not taking anyone else into consideration is unacceptable – even if you are stressed.
5. I really wish I had more time.
6. I laugh whenever I can.
7. I’m most at peace when I have managed to do good work.
8. I simply cannot resist turning the music up very loud.
9. I’m scared of not progressing. Not building. Not learning the lesson. Causing hurt to those I love. Not being true to myself. Making assumptions.

Sarashni Says:

As testimony to your radiance and beauty – you touched so deeply even those you never met – like me, as well as millions of other Isidingo fans. I once saw you being interviewed and what touched me was how gifted you are – you were sooo different to Lee Haines yet you played her to perfection. You were joyful, warm and loving – and this came thru in the interview. If I loved you for your acting before – I now began to love you for the beauty and joy I saw in that interview. I wanted to come to your restaurant and meet you but I never did – and this I will regret. Your presence is missed. I can only imagine what your family must feel. My love, support and prayers go out to them.

Sheena Perumal Says:

To the Callie Family
May god give u strenght & hope to get over this trying period. I can assure that u will not never forget Ashley, but the pain does get better. Please celebrate the life you had with her and thank god for giving you the chance to be part of her life.

You will never forget Ahley.
She will live in your heart’s & and in your memories.
Death makes her no less a part of your family.
Living with the fact that Ashley has died doesn’t mean forgetting
It means knowing & accepting that they she is gone, but still,Holding close those precious memories.
It means that yourlove for her will never change or die.

I have also lost 2 children in a car accident and can understand your pain and questions.

Lisa gangabishun(dbn) Says:

Sorry about ur loss.ashley was a beautiful, talented, vivacious woman who touched hearts through her amazing acting.celebrate her life n her love n never 4get her cherished memory.R.I.P beautiful lady

Denise Says:

My thoughts, my prayers and my tears are with you, her family and friends, today. I will say a special prayer for you and for her at 10.00 today. May God comfort and strengthen you in the days which lie ahead.

Goodbye, to a beautiful soul who sings with angels in Heaven now.

Tumelo Jobo Says:

My heart goes out for Lee. It was an attack of my heart when I saw Ashley in the news a week after her accident, as we knew that she was promising to recover I thought that I would hear that she’s discharged form the hospital, but I cried when I heard that she left. My main concern is her character I only asked myself who will be like her. I watched news repeatedly on different channels thinking that I was mistaken but it was true. May her soul rest in peace, there will be no one like her.

Lundi Nkwenkwezi Says:

To the Callie Family
May our gracious Heavenly Father be with you during this trying time!!! May Ashley’s spirit rest in peace! We’ll miss but never forget her!!!

Lee Says:

Hey Ashley. You gave us one of the most beautiful Spiritual Spotlights for Free Spirit. We were all touched by your inspiring, wise and special words, and you have a special place in our hearts.
I will miss you terribly, but I am so glad I got to meet you and know you a bit. Even in the short times we shared, you made me laugh and I think your greatest gift was your sense of humour. You will be remembered through tiny “Callie”, the latest member of my family – a beautiful kitten from TEARS that I have named in your memory. Lots of love

Yvonne Says:

A perfectly beautiful rose in memory of beautiful and perfect Ashley. A most befitting gesture. Thank you to Ludwig’s Roses.

Sabi Says:

You are so precious and loved. Your death made me realize you mean so much to me than I ever thought. You have lived your life and left a mark that will never fade away from us.

Callie Family

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”

Madelein Says:

To the Callie Family:

Oh God, I don’t know of all the challenges this family has, but You know everything, we year their silence, You hear their plead, we see them laughing, You see their tears, we see when they gives, You see what has been taken from them, we see their appearance, You see the scars in their soul, we experience their faith, You know their doubts, we ask that You give them everything they need & bless them abundantly. Amen.

Ashley – may you rest in peace, we will miss you, but we know you are in a much better place. Till we meet again!

Mark Thomson Says:

To our dear South African Princess Di (Ashley).

Thank you for entering our hearts with your perfect smile and personality. You will be sorely missed. There’s one more Angel in heaven and one more star in the sky. As the country stood together when we won the Rugby World Cup, so as we will stand together today as we remember our South African Princess Ashley Callie.

To the Callie family, thank you for sharing Ashley’s life with us and allowing her into our hearts. Our prays are with you all in this difficult time and you have the backing of the country, friends, and the Melville community behind you.

You will be missed in a very BIG way.

The Thomson Family

Eugene Roux Says:

Let us remember Ashley for the person she was and let her legacy live on. At 10:00 today I will pray a prayer for the family and those grieving. Let us all remember, let us do and let us be for each other today because there might not be a tomorrow. Remember life was so easily given but yet it can so easily be taken. Only God knows when the time to cut the rose is upon us and yes Ashley’s rose has been cut and will not die but continue to grow in heaven with the angels.

To Ashleys family/work colleagues and friends, be strong during this difficult time and know that Ashley is in a better place.

May the love of God and the peace and the fellowship of the holy spirit, be with us all today and forever more.

Glynis Says:

Condolences to the Callie family. May you be Blessed with strength at this terribly sad time. What a tragedy to lose a loved one at such a young age. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of dear Ashley – a talented and beautiful ‘Lady’ who brought such class to Isidingo. We will miss you dearly. Thanks to Isidingo for not replacing the ‘irreplacable’.

Tracey Says:

Ashley was my insperation. I never used to like Isidingo until I saw her and her beauty motivated me unconditionaly. I was devistated when I heard she passed, when you watch a soapie like Isidingo the characters become a pert of the family … Isidingo will never be the same again. May you rest in peace and my God be the provider for eternity on your beautiful soul.

Lauren Davids Says:

Phindile Ncube Says:

This is especially to the Family.

I never met the lady but by God I loved her. We will miss her so so so much.

“People always come into your life for a reason, a season and a lifetime. When you figure out which it is, you know exactly what to do.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed outwardly or inwardly. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, or to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or even spiritually. They may seem like a godsend to you, and they are. They are there for a reason, you need them to be. Then, without any wrong doing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die, Sometimes they just walk away. Sometimes they act up or out and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilleed; their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and it is now time to move on.
When people come into your life for a SEASON, it is because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn. They may bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season. And like Spring turns to Summer and Summer to Fall, the season eventually ends.

LIFETIME, relationships teach you a lifetime of lessons; those things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person/people (anyway);, and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas in your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant. Thank you for being part of my life.”

Leila & Junaid Says:

You were a part of our everyday lives…we did not know you personally, but we valued your presence dearly. May your family, friends and fans find contentment in their hearts and may your legacy live on.

Our hearts are sore-we too have lost someone we so loved. She was one in a million and will be sorely missed. We thank God for giving her to us. She has endeared herself to me and my family even more knowing that she was an animal lover. We have adopted 2 animals from the Animal anti cruelty League and will now adopt another and name it after her. She will live on with us forever. God bless you all, Jenni

Diane Warmback Says:

Today it is with great sadness that we say our farewell to Ashley until we all meet again. She crept into our hearts as Lee Haines and we all loved her and the role she played so well. Ashley bloomed into a beautiful young woman any parent would be proud of. My family loved her so that they felt they too had lost a friend. Our condolences to the Callie family but one consolation is they can just how much Ashley was loved. Also to the Isidingo cast and thank you for not replacing “Lee” as there will never be another person like her. Des & Diane Warmback

brandy Says:

Goodbye “Isidingo’s” rose
May you ever grow in our hearts
You were the grace that placed itself
Where lives were torn apart
You called out to our country
And you whispered to those in pain
Now you belong to heaven
And the stars spell out your name

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And your footsteps will always fall here
Along South Africa’s greenest hills
Your candle’s burned out long before
Your legend ever will

Loveliness we’ve lost
These empty days without your smile
This torch we’ll always carry
For our nation’s golden child
And even though we try
The truth brings us to tears
All our words cannot express
The joy you brought us through the years

Julius Says:

In the house of my Father there are many abodes. Otherwise, I would have told YOU, because I am going my way to prepare a place for YOU. 3 Also, if I go my way and prepare a place for YOU, I am coming again and will receive YOU home to myself, that where I am YOU also may be. 4 And where I am going YOU know the way.”

And don’t forget to put God first in everything you do.I am going to miss Ashley. Let her spirit rest in peace. Please read JOhn 14 in the bible. Quoted verses John 14 : 1-4

DO NOT let your hearts be troubled (distressed, agitated). You believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely on God; believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely also on Me.
In My Father’s house there are many dwelling places (homes). If it were not so, I would have told you; for I am going away to prepare a place for you.

And when (if) I go and make ready a place for you, I will come back again and will take you to Myself, that where I am you may be also.

And [to the place] where I am going, you know the way.

Laura Says:

Such a sad sad day for everyone who was in any way connected to Ashley, be it personally, or via our tv screens. Being the woman she is (for she will always be), she touched our lives by portraying the morals and fairness which so obviously is part of her. I really felt like a beloved family member walked into the room when she appeared on the screen, and it’s going to be a tough (just about impossible) act to follow. Our thoughts and prayers are especially with the family and friends of Ashley today. There just are not words, but our love and thoughts are with you, just as she will always be with you (and everyone who loved her). The rose is just a perfect way of paying tribute, and we’ll think of her and her family everytime we see one.

Palesa Says:

We thank God for your life. It has been precious and inspiring. Its amazing how your sudden passing hurts, but truth is we have learned that we must put God first in all things and at all times. When troubles come and my heart burdened be
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up… to more than I can be.

Ashley’s family we are so sorry for your loss. It is such a painful time not only for you but for us also. To us (the Bhembe Family) it feels as though we have lost a member of our family. Ashley was a part of our home, she was so loved though known from afar and as a character on TV she made it seem so real, so meaningful and so pure to play her role as Lee. We will miss the way she would say “DADDY” on her role, with such innocence. She was our Ashley as much as she was yours and she will forever be. We love you Callie family. God strengthen you.

Roz Stott - KZN Says:

Its so hard to understand the feelings I feel about Ashley’s passing. Having never personally met her, I should grieve like I am. Watching her every day on Isidingo, she becomes a part of your daily life. One could see the lovely person she was, even though she was acting, as it showed through. To the Callie family, my sincere sympathy. She is at peace now and you will see her again one day. A prayer for your strenth to get through such a difficult time.

Sthoko Says:

With deepest sympathy to the Callie family, God be with you Ashley till we meet again, you’re an angel never to be forgotten but always to be remembered.

Ruan Says:

I barely ever watched Isidingo, mostly because i have such busy life. But the times i did watch Isidingo, i remember thinking to myself what a beautiful person Ashley is. I believe in reasoning the obvious, and the obvious is that Ashley was a great person. She had sketched her story to many a people whom have been so fortunate to have met or known her. She painted her success in being the humble, sophisticated, charming and clever person i believe she was. My thoughts and respects to those who were close to Ashley; her family, friends, colueges and fans. She touched many people and fans alike, and left the whole nation trembling in sadness. God bless them all…..God bless you….God bless South Africa….

Natalie Le Clue Says:

The Ashley Callie rose. Soft and radiant yet vibrant, just like Ash.

Paul Says:

I have to agree with Natalie, it is a stunning Rose. Where can one buy them from? I still haven’t come to terms with this tragedy. I took flowers to the Restaurant she used to own, yesterday, and made my Contribution to the Animal Anti-Cruelty League as well in Ashley’s Rememberance. I must say it made me feel quite a lot better. I keep saying to myself, if we, as loyal, dedicated fans, feel so heartbroken and destroyed – how must her Family be feeling? It must be too sad for them. Lauren, Deyon, & Callie Family, my thoughts and prayers are still with you during this difficult time. I see ASHLEY will be featured on the cover of next week’s YOU Magazine. Be sure to get it. And we must keep this website going, in Ashley’s Rememberance.

Ashley, I miss you so very much, and we will keep you in our memories forever. :-(

May you Rest In Peace.

Natalie Le Clue Says:

I agree with Paul, this website should continue on in honour of Ashley’s memory. From all the stuff I’ve seen about Ashley I can gather that she was a ver funny person. I love a good joke, so I saw something today on tv, that I thought maybe she would have laughed at. It was a shirt that said: What if the hokey pokey is what its all about? Anyone with a good sense of humour should enjoy that one.

s.miss her Says:

i to agree with natalie and paul…….as i said the website should continue in ashleys name.i just watch isidingo now………love the way she spoke to dineo and harriot. i could just imagine the way she took that shot……hahaha.a real lady with a great sense of homour.
ashley will always remain in our hearts.
miss you ashley.

s.miss her Says:

sorry natalie…whos deyon?
her brother?wats her date of birth?
a reply would be nice

Natalie Le Clue Says:

First about deon ,you must be addressing the other natalie. Her date of birth is the 19th of may 1973.

Anon Says:

Deon is ashley’s boyfriend of 8 yrs

s.miss her Says:

thanx natalie and anon.
it feels so great to know when her birthday is…..cause mine is on the 10th of may.i never knew she had a boyfriend.

s.miss her Says:

paul i just saw the cover of the you…….going to buy one

Paul Says:

s.miss the new YOU is great, isn’t it? What Beautiful Photo’s of Ashley in the tribute article. Be sure to get the new TV PLUS & PEOPLE Magazines, there is something about Ashley in there, too. I also believe there is something in this week’s YOU. I’m glad we finally have her correct Birthdate, which I belive is 19th May 1973. As we can remember her on that day. It’s really very upsetting to watch “Isidingo”, but I have to watch, as I was one of her biggest fans. And the fact that it’s been nearly 2 weeks since she passed away, leaves me still shocked … This is really sad :-( :-(

Deyon, Lauren, John, Mr & Mrs Callie, my thoughts and prayers are with you everyday, always!

ASHLEY, we are missing you so very dearly, and we won’t be the same again without you.

johannK Says:

people im a fashion designer and i always wanted to de ash”s designer as she was so was my big dream. then i would have know that i made it in the fashion world.that dream is down the drains now. all i can think off now is that the last i can do is host a fashion show in her memory.

Nicolette Maysiels Says:

To the Callie faily:

In your hearts you will never be without her. One more angel to watch and fuss over you. When the sun shines again, smile for her, she is watching as you cry and cannot wait for the day you’ll all gather around and laugh about all the wonderful things she was to you. She may be gone, but she lives on…

To Deon:

You were blessed than one such wonderful individual could trust you with her heart. She was precious, that makes you a wonderful human being for she would not have been with you if you weren’t. There’s light at the end of the tunnel. Hold on and continue to be wonderful, knowing she’s watching over you and feeling proud that you’d loved her so dearly.

Be still and know that He is with you…

Nicolette Maysiels

Sikelelwa Mboto Says:

I agree we should vote for ashley to celebrate her greate career, she was the best actress even if she was alive in that category i would defenetelty vote for her, so guys pls vote for her.

Selina Says:

I bought the YOU magazine yesterday. I had to have it. She looks so beautiful. My heart goes out to Deon. Be strong – God will help you through this difficult time.

Tanya Says:

We are missing Ashley so much!! Still can’t believe she is gone! Selina, can you please tell me who Deon is? For I have not yet got myself the YOU Magazine.
Thank You.

Barbara Harmel Says:

Two weeks ago, today, marks her death. And it remains unbelievable. Still think of Ashley Callie daily, and the cruel ending of so young and so gifted a woman. I think too of her family, enduring this horrendous shock and loss, her boyfriend Deon, her colleagues on Isidingo.

Alive, though, she will always remain with all of us.

Thandeka Says:

Thank you for sharing your life with us, thank you for allowing us a chance to learn from you. To the family, everything happens for a reason. God knows why He allowed this to happen. Akuhlanga lungehlanga.

Let us all celebrate her good life…

Rest in peace Ash…

natasha Says:

For Ashleys’s Family & Friends

Somewhere in our dreams tonight
We’ll see you standing there
You’ll look at us with a smile
“Life isn’t always fair”

You say you were chosen for his garden
His preciously hand picked bouquet
“God really needed me,
That’s why I couldn’t stay”

It’s said to be that angels
Are sent from above
I’ve always had my angel
Our Friend – whose heart was filled with love

Wherever the ocean meets the sky
There will be memories of you
When I look up at that sky so blue
All we’ll see are visions of you

“While there’s a heart in us, you’ll be a part of us.”
“Forever Young, Forever Young”
“There is a new Angel tonight”

Trust in God and he will help you through this difficult time that you are going through. He will always be there for you when you need him, in good or bad times. He will help you cope. Words can’t begin to describe how we feel about what has happend. But she will be greatly missed. She was and will always be a STAR. Our STAR!!!!!!!!
Our deepest sympathy to each and everyone of her family and friends.
