The other driver appears in court tomorrow October 2, 2008

The driver of the other car involved in the road accident which killed television actress Ashley Callie appeared briefly in the Randburg magistrate’s court on 28 August 2008.

Nico Pretorius, 21, is facing culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving charges.

The matter was postponed to October 3 to allow Pretorious to get a legal representative.

The actress, who played Leigh Haines in the SABC 3 soapie Isidingo, died after sustaining head injuries during a car crash in northern Johannesburg in February 8.

Her sister Lauren Callie said the family was pleased that charges were laid because that proved there was sufficient evidence confirming that her sister was actually a victim, “not a villain as some media reports alleged at the time”.

“It was quite a relief for the family, especially after the negative publicity at the time of the accident.”

Lauren Callie said that even if Pretorius was convicted it would not be a consolation for the family because “it won’t bring my sister back”.

Moring to everyone!
The court date came and it was postponed to 20 November to allow the defence to obtain the docket and have it analyzed.

I for one, hope that justice will be done.

Ash fan always

PENALTY – a conviction for culpable homicide as a result of bad driving leads to endorsement, and most likely to suspension or cancellation, of the driver’s licence. in addition, an offender may be sentenced to a fine, a period of imprisonment, or both a fine and imprisonment.
Lets hope he learns a lesson and gets the applicable punishment.

Ihope that he gets the maximum punnishment there is, although this won’t bring Ashley back maybe it will give the family some closure.

A fine, prison time, his license taken away…
So little? I honestly didn’t know. Its close to unfair.

May the evidence show the incompetence of the metro police and restore her name in full.

Dear Ashley,

Today it is 9 months since you were so tragically taken away from us :-( Yet, it still feels like yesterday, when we heard the dreadful news.

It has not been easy for all us fans, especially not seeing you on “Isidingo” anymore. I for one, do not watch anymore. What’s the point? Our Best Actress is no longer there.

I for one have been PRAYING HARD that JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED next week when the court case carries on.

There is not a day that goes by that I wish you were still with us, and you are sorely missed!

Mr & Mrs Callie, Lauren, Deyon & Kids – How must you all be doing? There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think and pray for you all. If we as fans, are so devastated, it must be 100 million times worse for all of you. I think of you all the time.

Ashley you were the BEST ACTRESS we ever had and I miss you very much!

Your fan, always.
Paul.
